McFarlane seems to have learned some useful things from their Walking Dead TV and comic series action figure lines. Here we have the swashbuckling Edward Kenway from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. No one really knows much yet about this character other than that he is Connor's Grandfather. The game doesn't street until October the 29th, so as of now all we know about this character is that he can swim, platform, drive a boat, shoot and stab people like nobody's business.McFarlane had their work cut out for them, NECA did a pretty great job with their Player Select line for Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II figures, as well as their figures for Brotherhood. The largest complaint about those lines were the lack of accessories, something McFarlane clearly listened to. This figure comes with two swords, his hidden assassins blades which are removeable (a big gripe for all the previous Assassin's Creed figures was the lack of their hidden blades). Edward's hood can also be removed (but Edward doesn't have his pony tail like he does in the game, understandable since it would be near impossibly to sculpt a pony tail that would fit under the removable hood) which is a great feature. The packing for this figure is on par with the Walking Dead series 3 figures, the card is taller vertically as opposed to horizontally wide, the blister runs a good length of the whole card, the blister window has a DLC code for on the bottom inside for the Kenway Family Sword.Overall this is a great figure. Mine will stay blistered to the card, but as far as articulation goes, it looks to be on par with the previous wave of the Walking Dead figures McFarlane released in March. 6" is the perfect size for this figure, detail is great, the paint apps look good and there is some nice dry brushing, minimal to no bleeding. The accessories even have decent detail. I like the light colored card this figure is blistered to, it matches the NECA Assassin's Creed figures in case you are adding to your collection. My only complaint for this figure is that he doesn't come with a pistol, the gameplay I've seen Edward has 4 pistols holstered to the back of his belt which would have been a great addition to this figure. I am excited for ACIV: Black Flag, so I knew I had to get my hands on this. I am also a fan of McFarlane Toys and the work they've done with the Walking Dead so I knew this figure would be solid, which it is. For the price this is a steal, I am hard pressed to find decent action figures from a license or franchise I like anymore for under $20, so this figure for $14.99 is really great. McFarlane and NECA have really stepped up their game this year, I am really excited to see what else McFarlane does with the Assassin's Creed license. FULLY APPROVED.
